Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested 5 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession in Kulgam district.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about gambling activities in Sopat, a police party of Police Station Devsar raided the specific spot and arrested five gamblers on the spot, Stating therein further that the accused have been identified as Sabzar Ahmad Sheikh S/O Bashir Ahmad Sheikh R/O YK Pora, Tariq Ahmad Khan S/O Mohd Yousuf Khan R/O Shali Qazigund, Manzoor Ahmad Shah S/O Mohd Rafiq Shah R/O Sursun, Batingoo, Wajood Ahmad Ganie S/O Mohd Jabbar Ganie and Suhail Ahmad Ganie S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie, both residents of Banghall.
Stating that stake money of Rs11000/-, 5 mobile phones and playing cards were seized from the above named gamblers, Police in it’s statement said that the accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Saying that a case vide FIR No. 13/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Devsar and further investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
