Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested 3 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam and Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances and a cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that in Baramulla, during the intervening night of 24th & 25th of February, Police received inputs about the presence of narcotic substance in the house of one identified as Maqsood Ahmad Bhatti S/O Bhag Ali R/O Madiyan Kamalkote Uri, Stating therein further that a police party led by Incharge Police Post Kamalkote PSI Shubham Seth under the overall supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the said house.
Police in it’s statement further said during search of the house, cash amounting to Rs Fourteen Lacs Seventy-Six Thousand & Eight Hundred Fifty (₹14,76,850/-) (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime) and 850 grams of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered & seized in presence of Magistrate.
Stating that during preliminarily investigation, it was learnt that under a well hatched conspiracy, Pakistan based handlers are pushing drugs inside Kashmir valley through such smugglers to spread drug addiction amongst youth of Kashmir, Police in it’s statement said that the accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Disclosing that in a similar action in Budgam, a police party of Police Station Chadoora at a checkpoint established at Chadoora near grid station intercepted a person who on seeing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Police in it’s statement further said that the said accused has been identified as Muhammad Iqbal Wani S/O Noor Muhammad R/O Gamander, Chadoora. Stating therein further that during searches 2 Kgs of semi grinded cannabis concealed in nylon bag was recovered from the possession of the said accused who has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Kulgam district Police while acting on specific inputs about hoarding of narcotic substances by one identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat S/O Abdul Razzaq Bhat R/O Nowpora at his residential house deputed a Police Party led by In-charge Police Post Mirbazar to the site which raided the specific spot and recovered 20Kgs of poppy straw and 4kgs of grinded cannabis from the said house, Police in it’s statement said that the accused was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Stating therein further that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
In a concluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law and reiterated the commitments to make best possible efforts to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
