Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that in a series of actions,it has arrested nine (9) drug peddlers across Kashmir valley and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar here police said that in Baramulla, a police party of PS Kunzer during patrolling at Lalpora Kunzer, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Shahid Ahmad Wani S/O Abdul Gani& Sameer Ahmad Rather S/O Gh Mohammad Rather, both residents of Lalpora Kunzer and during searches recovered 108 grams of charas from their possession.
Stating that in another similar action action, a police party of PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Dewanbagh Baramulla, arrested two drug peddlers identified as Shaib Showkat Mir S/O Showkat Ahmad R/O Gousia Colony Azadgunj and Saqib Ibrahim Pir S/O Mohd Ibrahim R/O Ladoora Rafiabad and during searches recovered 215 grams of charas from their possession, Police in it’s statement that in Anantnag also, a police party of PS Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Sarnal BalaAnantnag intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK18A-4445 with three persons on board identified as Bilal Ahmed Dar S/O Ghulam Qadir Dar R/O Chichdipora, Sajad Ahmed Khan S/O Ghulam Nabi Khan R/O Rambirpora Mattan and Mehraj-ud-din Lone S/O Ghulam Rasool Lone R/O Ashajipora. Police in it’s statement also said that during checking, 29 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from the above named accused who have been arrested and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
“In Kulgamalso, a police party at a checkpoint established at Lowermunda Qazigund arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Ubaid Ahmad Sofi S/O Mohd Maqbool Sofi R/O Sangam Bijbehara”, reads the above referred police statement, adding that “during checking 02 Kgs of charas were recovered from his possession”.
Stating that at another checkpoint established at Damidulla Crossing, a police party of PP Frisal, arrested a drug peddler identified as Mohd Yaqoob Malik R/O Arwani Bijbehara and during searches recovered 3.87 grams of Heroin from his possession, Police in its statement said that all the accused persons have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Stating therein further that cases have been also registered under relevant sections of law and investigations have been initiated.
In theconcluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
