Srinagar: Thousands of muslims on Saturday evening thronged Dargah Hazratbal shrine here on Meraj-ul-Aalam to have a glimpse of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
On the occasion, the sanctum sanctorum was decorated with colourful lights while the administration had made elaborate arrangements to facilitate the devotees who converged at the shrine in large numbers. The market around the shine remained abuzz with people buying traditional food items and other things.
Emotional scenes were witnessed at the shrine during the display of the holy relic. Despite erratic weather thousands of devotees stood under open sky to have a glimpse of the holy relic.
Nightlong prayers started from late evening prayers across the length and breadth of the Kashmir Valley. Reports said that the celebrations were also held at Asar Shareef Lal Bazar, Jenab Saheb Soura, Kelashpora, Syed Saheb Sonwar, Shopian, Makhama-Beerwah, and other places located around the Kashmir Valley.
The administration had kept in place adequate measures for the smooth movement of devotees to Hazratbal as the areas around the shrine wore a festive look with many roadside vendors selling eatables and other items. Meraj-ul-Aalam is commemorated to mark the ascent of Islam’s most revered Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to heaven. At most of the mosques and shrines of Kashmir, the muslim devotees spent the preceding night in recitation of Holy Quran and supplications.
