Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Bidhuri on Saturday said the ongoing development works in the city centre Lal Chowk for smart city projects have taken pace as the work is going on in double shifts, while the next two months are crucial in view of the proposed G20 meeting in Srinagar.
Talking to reporters after taking review of development works in Lal Chowk, Bidhuri said in the coming two month people might have to face inconvenience as some roads will be closed to complete the development works.
He said the development works will be completed in a stipulated time as work is going on in double shifts.
“We had started works when there was no proposal for the G20 meeting in Srinagar, but since it has been proposed to hold the meeting here it benefitted us as we started work in double shifts. The projects will be completed in time now,” he said.
Amid ongoing ‘anti encroachment’ drives across Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said that its pace has not gone down as they are consolidating the data afresh and cross-checking the details.
He said that people have generally supported the drive, stating that the drive’s main purpose was the welfare of people. “We are again consolidating the data and cross-checking the details after fear among the people, which in fact did not exist. People have generally supported the drive and nobody told me anything wrong has happened,” he said.
He said that justice has been done and that the LG has himself said nothing wrong is going to happen, stating that will not happen.
In a response to a question on whether the issuance of any order for those with smaller chunks of lands in Marla will not be touched, he said that the government is working on it.
“Government is working on this as it is a policy decision and everything has to be looked into and to formulate any such policy government has to look into all aspects keeping the welfare of people into consideration”, he said
