Handwara police solve theft cases, 3 arrested, recovers stolen property

Handwara: Handwara Police in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday arrested three accused involved in two different theft cases and recovered stolen property, officials said here.

They said that on January 13, 2023, FIR number 07/2023 U/s 379 IPC was registered at Police Station Handwara for the theft of a Motorcycle bearing registration number JK05C-3375 from Gonipora.

“A team led by SHO Handwara immediately swung into action. Based on leads developed during the investigation, statements of witnesses, and technical evidence, the accused involved in the offense was identified, traced, and arrested,” the officials said.

The accused, officials said has been identified as Shafkat Shareef Pir son of Mohd Shareef a resident of Gundsana Hyhama Kupwara.

Based on his disclosure, officials said that the stolen motorcycle has been recovered. “The vehicle (Tata Mobile) used in the commission crime has also been seized.”

In another case officials said that FIR NO. 30/2023 U/S 379 was registered in Police Station (PS) Handwara on February 16, 2023, for the theft of iron rods from a shop at Bypass Handwara. “A team of PS Handwara immediately swung into action and identified two accused involved in the commission of a crime, and arrested them.” They have been identified as Mudasir Majeed Shah son of Ab Majid a resident of Jamia Qadeem Sopore and Nasir Ahmad Sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmad a resident of Naseembagh Sopore A/P Kushal Colony Sopore,” the official said.

They said that based on their disclosure, around 14.5 quintals of stolen iron rods were recovered. “The vehicle (Truck) used in the commission of the crime has also been seized in the instant case, ” the official further said.

Further investigation in both cases is going on to ascertain further involvement of accused persons in other theft, officials added.
