Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers across Kashmir and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that in Baramulla, Police Post Palhallan received an information through reliable sources about one person namely Abdul Kareem Lone S/O Mohd Akbar Lone R/O of Hajam Mohalla Palhallan having indulged in illegal drug trade and hoarded huge quantity of illegal drugs at his house.
Stating that on receipt of these inputs a police party led by Incharge PP Palhallan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the specific house and during search recovered 15.8Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the said house, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the accused person involved in the commission of crime was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and a a case under relevant sections of law stands registered at police station Pattan and investigation initiated.
Stating that in yet another similar kind of action, a police party led by Incharge PP Wusan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz during naka checking at Goshbug Pattan arrested a drug peddler identified as Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh S/O Abdul Gaffar Sheikh R/O Sangri Kanlibagh Baramulla, Police in it’s statement further said that during checking, 70 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from his possession following which he was shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Police in a statement further said that moreover, a police party of Police Post Fruit Mandi during patrolling at Chakrodi Khan crossing intercepted a suspicious person identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh S/O Abdul Khaliq Sheikh R/O Batpora Sopore and during searches recovered 12 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that the accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Stating therein further that accordingly a case vide FIR No. 19/2023 was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been alsoinitiated.
While cracking down on drug peddling police said that in Budgam district also, during naka checking at Alamdar colony crossing, police party of Police Station Cherar-e-sharief intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Stating therein further that during searches 90 grams of Charas like sticks wrapped in maize cob cover (7 No’s) and 1.6Kgs Cannabis like powder concealed in nylon bag were recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Gowhar Ahmad Parra S/O Ghulam Ahmad Parra R/O SarbanCharar-e-Sharief, Stating that the above named accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, Police in it’s statement furthermore said that it has according registered a a case FIR No. 10/2023 under relevant sections of law at Police Station Charar-e-Shareef and investigation is underway.
Police in it’s statement also said that in a similar action Kulgam police led by SHO Police Station DH Pora at a checkpoint established at Yaroo Watigam Crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully and during searches recovered 112 grams of Charas like substance from the possession of the said accused identified as Mohd Altaf MirS/O Abdul Ahad Mir R/O Watigam, who was arrested later and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Stating further that it has accordingly registered a vide FIR No.05/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered as Police Station DH Pora and investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement, appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
