Natural catastrophes like Earthquakes, Floods and Tsunamis don’t only devastate the places where they occur but the tales of unbelievable survivals of such catastrophes attract the attention of people towards certain good deeds which bring surprising rewards for them in the hours of crisis triggered by natural calamities. The tales of the survival of one five year old baby and the arrival of a house owner with his onetime tenant thrown out by him for not paying the rent of the hired accommodation in a tent after the devastating quake rendered them homeless certainly leave some lessons for the people in other parts of the world to learn from the plight of quake victims of Turkey and Syria. Doing charity deserves our immediate attention as hopefully such good deeds expected of us for the fear of Almighty Allah could bring also rewards for us in the times when catastrophes like earthquakes, floods and Tsunamis push us in a state of shelterlessness and helplessness. Today quakes have shaken even the economically mightiest people in Turkey and Syria and never rule it out that after months and years such catastrophes can trigger the homelessness and starvation in some other parts of the world to the people who may not be economically as strong as are the people of quake hit Turkey and Syria. Natural catastrophes like quakes, floods and Tsunamis are sometimes so strong that even quake resistant homes and migration from more flood prone areas to less flood prone territories leave no scope for people to resist the power of any natural calamity in one or the other part of the world. People in any part of the world won’t have even thought about it that twin Turkey-Syria earthquakes measuring 7.8 in moment magnitude will shift the attention of world leaders from even the long trail of death and destruction triggered by Russian Ukraine war in Ukraine which till yesterday was dominating the media headlines .

The essence of humanity lies in showing a sense of solidarity with the victims of natural calamities finding themselves trapped in a state of shelterlessness and helplessness. Wisdom demands that people always keep in mind the Leo Tolstoy’s famous words “If you feel pain, you’re alive. If you feel other people’s pain, you’re a human being.”

Till yesterday the world leaders were focusing their attention on ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine to stop the trail of death and destruction in war ravaged Ukraine but now their attention is focused on relief and rehabilitation of quake victims in quake hit Turkey and Syria. Never forget that emotions of sympathy and humanitarian support touch sky rocketing heights for the people struck by huge natural calamities like earthquakes, floods and Tsunamis.  The essence of humanity lies in showing a sense of solidarity with the victims of natural calamities finding themselves trapped in a state of shelterlessness and helplessness. Wisdom demands that people alway keep in mind Leo Tolstoy’s famous words “If you feel pain, you’re alive. If you feel other people’s pain, you’re a human being.”
