4 drug peddlers held across Kashmir, contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that in a series of actions fourdrug peddlers have been arrested across Kashmir and huge quantity of contraband substances have been also recovered from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said “ In Ganderbal, during the investigation of Case FIR No. 12/2023, the arrested drug peddler disclosed that one person namely Sameer Gul Nayik S/O Gh Mohd Nayik R/O Gadoora Ganderbal has hoarded narcotic substances in his residential house”, adding that “While acting on this information, Ganderbal Police raided the specific location and during search huge quantity of contraband substances including Cannabis Powder was recovered & seized on the spot in presence of Ist Class Magistrate Ganderbal”, Stating therein further that “the accused person was also arrested in the instant case & further investigation is in progress”.
While giving further details police said that officers from Police Station Lar under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs Ganderbal Gh Hassan at a checkpoint established at SKUAST road Behama intercepted a suspicious person identified as Shams-u-din Khan S/O Bahdur Khan R/O Benhama Lar, Police in it’s statement further said that during searches huge quantity of charas was recovered from his possession following which the said accused was arrested and shifted to Police station where he remains in custody.
Police in a statement said that in a similar kind of action in Kulgam district, a police party from Police Station Devsar led by SHO Devsar Inspr. Jazib Mohammad at a checkpoint established at Sopat Berigam crossing intercepted two suspicious persons who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. Stating that the two said accused have been identified as Yawer Ahmad Sheikh S/O Mohd Jabar Sheikh and Shahbaz Ahmad Shah S/O Gulzar Ahmad Shah, both residents of Churat. Police in it’s statement furthermore said that during searchs six Kgs of Poppy Straw and 10grams of Charas were from the possession of the above named accused who have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Stating therein further that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have also been initiated.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that pople found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
