Srinagar: Minimum temperature drops at most places of Kashmir valley as the tourist resort of Gulmarg recorded the season’s coldest night at minus 13.5 degree Celsius on Sunday, officials said.
The famed ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded seasons lowest at 13.5 degree Celsius on Sunday which was also second lowest in a decade for this month of the year. It was 7.3 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season, the Meteorological office said.
Earlier on February 7, 2013 the minimum temperature at Gulmarg was recorded at minus14.2 degree Celsius while on January 16 this year the temperature plunged to minus 12.0 degree Celsius at the valley of meadow in north Kashmir.
Gulmarg, covered with huge snow, presently hosting 3rd “Khelo India National Winter Games” in which more than 1500 players from 29 states and Union Territories are participating in various winter games events.
MeT forecast of mainly dry weather over Jammu and Kashmir with very light snow at one or two places in the morning during the next 24 hours.
Sun played hide and seek in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius which was 0.8 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season. It also received 1.4mm of rainfall during the past 24hours till 0830hours today.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national had a low of minus 1.5 degree Celsius and it also received 3.6mm of rainfall and 2.0 Cms of snowfall during the past 24hours.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded at minus 4.0 degree Celsius which was 1.0 above normal for the valley of shepherds during this period of the season. It also received 2.6mm of rainfall and 0.5 Cms of snowfall during the past 24 hours.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.7 degree Celsius 3.5 degree below normal during this period of the season. It also received 1.9mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Kokernag, the picnic spot of south Kashmir had a low of minus 2.3 degree Celsius and it also received 3.0mm of rainfall and 1.0 Cms of snowfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said.
