Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested four drug peddlers and recovered huge consignment of contraband substance and cash from their possession in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said based on specific information regarding smuggling of narcotics in the area of Kamalkote Uri, a police party established a special checkpoint at Sultan Daki Kali Mitti.
During the checking, a vehicle (Tata Sumo) with four persons on board was intercepted who tried to flee from the spot but was tactfully stopped by the alert police party.
During search of the vehicle, cash amount of Rs 25,39,000/- and 1.17Kgs of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered.
All the four accused persons identified as Naseer Ahmad Bhatti, Reyaz Ahmad Khanday, Fayaz Ahmad Khanday and Mohd Pazeer , all residents of Madiyan Kamalkote Uri were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Uri and investigation set into motion.
During preliminary investigation, it was learnt that under a well hatched conspiracy, Pakistan based handlers are pushing drugs inside J&K through such smugglers to spread drug addiction among the youth of J&K. Further investigation into the case is going on.
