Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested 3 notorious drug peddlers in Sopore and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Tarzoo at a checkpoint established at Lalad National Highway near Sanctorium Public School intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03D-2694 with two persons on board.
In it’s above referred statement police further said that the accused have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Wagay son of Ali Mohammad Wagay and Gulzar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Gani Mir, both residents of Dupatyar Bijbhera Anantnag, disclosing therein that during checking, 10 kilograms of charas were recovered from their possession and later on the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Stating that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized and during its preliminary investigation, Police in it’s statement said that the arrested drug peddlers had planned to sell the contraband substance in Sopore town.
Police in its statement further said that yet in an another similar action, a police party of Police Station Tarzoo arrested a drug peddler at Sangrama Chowk and recovered 13 bottles of codeine from his possession following whuch the accused was identified as Irfan Syed Antoo S/O Mohammad Syed Antoo R/O Amberpora Tarzoo who has later been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a cases under relevant sections of law was accordingly registered at Police Station Tarzoo and investigation is in progress, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police also assured the people that it has been making all possible efforts to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
