Basic Social Services For Poor

Though poverty alleviation programs are in force for the last seventy years but still the no of people living below the poverty line heads for no dead end not only in Jammu & Kashmir but also in other states and union territories of the country. While unfortunately doubts are there in the figures of the people living below the poverty line, the factual position about the figures can be verified only by the Governments in the states and union territories of the country. Verification of the BPL figures should not be an initiative just to count the families availing free ration facility from the ration depots but it should also be an exercise to know all about the figures of houselessness also in all the states and union territories of the Government in Jammu & Kashmir. Verification about such figures would ultimately generate ideas about the plans for not only delivery of free ration but also about housing facilities to the poor (People living below the poverty line) and deprived. Such figures would also consequently generate ideas about increasing the capital investment for the purposes of improving the living conditions of the poor (People living below the poverty line) and as well as the deprived people and also raising the promptness in the delivery of social services to the poor and deprived.

Unfortunately the inability of the Governments in states and union territories to verify the accuracy and authenticity of BPL families has become a big hurdle in using the poverty alleviation programs for reducing the poverty and deprivation and raising the standards of living and delivery of basic social services to the poor (People living below the poverty line) and as well as the deprived.  Without taking bold initiatives in correcting the incorrect figures about the poor (People living below the poverty line) and the deprived no government in any part of world would find itself in a position to reach out to the poor with the plans for their welfare and also improving their living conditions

Since besides homelessness the joblessness, basic healthcare and education facilities and food security are the bigger challenges of governance in the current socio-economic scenario in the country including Jammu & Kashmir, it is imperative for the Government to draw plans on factually correct statistical date of houselessness, healthcare facilities, facility of quality education and delivery of free ration to poor and deprived. Doubts about the figures of BPL categories persist for years together and there in no end to it despite the fact that the eligibility of BPL families is being contested at local levels in community blocks, tehsils and districts.
