Implementation of Action Areas of DEP reviewed at G’bal

Ganderbal: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah on Friday chaired a meeting to review the implementation of action areas of District Environment Plan (DEP) in the district.
At the outset, detailed discussion was held on works done by the Departments and necessary directions were given for the formulation of the District Environment Plan for the district.
The ADC directed all the members to furnish a monthly report regarding implementation of DEP to this office so that the same is forwarded and reflected to the higher authorities and uploaded on JKERS and District Website.
The meeting also discussed the status of land transferred to MC Ganderbal for safe and scientific disposal of SWM at Hakeem Gund. The ADC directed the concerned to expedite the works taken up so that Ganderbal becomes a Model District and Environmental Friendly.
While discussing the status of IEC programmes, he asked the concerned to conduct IEC programmes at Municipal and Panchayat level for making the general public aware of ill effects of plastic and manufacturing of alternative bags, packing material must be encouraged.
The Municipal Council was asked to ensure proper dumping of bio wastes, e-waste, solid waste and Plastic waste.
The EO Municipal Council Ganderbal was directed to utilize the services of Eco Club/NSS students for cleaning the water bodies of the district, also necessary Bins are provided to the schools for collection of waste.
The Health department Ganderbal was directed for segregation of BMW and its safe disposal by CBWTF and ensure that the waste generated is regularly being taken by CBWTF to avoid any outbreak in the district keeping in view COVID-19 Pandemic.
Chief Agriculture Officer and Chief Horticulture Officer, Ganderbal were directed that a close vigil on the mixture of Pesticides/Insecticides be kept by the field functionaries of their departments and identification of illegal Pesticide/ insecticide dealers in the district be carried out on war footing basis and initiate strict action against them.
The ADC directed concerned wildlife department/RDD/Soil Conservation Department/Agriculture Department/ Forest Department, for protection and restoration of Water Bodies, wet lands and reiterated no Contamination, effluent flows to these water bodies and ensure protection of these Water bodies and wetlands.
Similarly, Executive Engineer I&FC Ganderbal was directed that no Sewage be drained into Nallahs and water reservoirs and strict action be taken against the offenders. The cleaning and desilting process of all irrigation canals/ Streams be completed and, it shall strictly ensure that the slit and other garbage material has been completely removed from the banks of these canals/water bodies in coordination with locals.
The CEO Sonamarg Development Authority was directed that the garbage from Baltal base camp be dumped properly and the Solid Waste plant be made fully functional in an efficient way in order to preserve the fragile environment of Yatra area.
The ADC Directed inter departmental checking Squad of MC, Ganderbal, FC&CS, Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Police, Revenue shall conduct Market Checking, wherein strict action shall be taken against the sellers of SUP/ Polythene, also FIR be lodged against the violators.
The ADC directed all the participants that plastic bottles shall not be used in any Govt. Offices. Also it was directed that the collected waste from all offices shall be properly dumped and whatsoever department is involved in dumping waste other than dumping sites shall be booked under Law.
The meeting was attended by the members of the District Environment Committee, officials of Wild life, Soil Conservation, Agriculture, Revenue, I&FC, Animal Husbandry and Health Department.
