Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler and also recovered contraband substance from his possession in Baramulla district.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that a police party under the supervision of SHO PS Sheeri Insp. Waseem Jahangir at a checkpoint established on NHW Gantamulla Colony, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Stating therein that during search 15 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from the possession of named accused who was identified as Mohammad Altaf Chopan son of Mohammad Ahsan Chopan resident of Kanispora and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that a case was registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Sheeri and investigation has been initiated, Police in the concluding para of the above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and reiterated that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
