Poonch: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism at Poonch Campus University of Jammu.
Campus Officer, DrRubiaBukhari unfurled the Tricolour on behalf of Director Poonch Campus.
Director Poonch Campus Prof. DipankarSengupta, while congratulating the gathering on Republic Day said that this day reminds us of our freedom struggle and how the great freedom fighters of our country sacrificed their lives to achieve PurnSwaraj. He further said that it’s because of their struggle that today we are living in a democratic country where every citizen has right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, right to freedom of religion, cultural and educational rights, and right to constitutional remedies.
He paid glowering tributes to the Soldiers who laid their lives while guarding the country.
Faculty, students and non teaching staff of Poonch Campus were present on the occasion.
While congratulating the gathering, Dr. RubiaBukhari said that the Constitution of independent India came into existence on this day in the year 1950 which provides equal fundamental rights to every citizen of the country irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion.
She said as a responsible citizen every stakeholder should contribute to the developmental drive.
“Our army, paramilitary forces and numerous officers and staff of the Central and State governments worked in difficult conditions in partnership with the common people to perform an outstanding task in providing relief to those who were stranded” she added.
I/C Department of Sericulture, Dr. Suraksha Chanotra said that the theme of this year’s Republic Day celebration is “Jan-Bhagidari-People”. It honours the entry into force of the Indian Constitution, which had earlier displaced the Government of India Act of 1935.
Dr. Muzafar Lecturer, informed students that we achieved independence in 1947 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. If we look at our subsequent journey, we would find that our country has seen major changes every ten years.
Kalpna Sudan said that India became a sovereign democratic republic, marking a watershed moment in Indian history. January 26 was chosen as Republic Day to honour the leaders and freedom fighters who declared it to be the “PurnaSwaraj Divas.” SumyaKapoor Teaching Assistant presented a formal vote of thanks.
