National Workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights” held in GDC Kathua

Kathua: Science Club in Collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) & Research Development Cell (RDC) of Govt Degree College Kathua on Wednesday organized a National Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights under National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM).
A large number of students and faculty members from across the nation participated in the event.The Workshop was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Prof. Sumanesh, Principal, GDC Kathua in presence of , Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener, Science Club, RDC & Head, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, IQAC Coordinator revered resource person ChhaviGarg, NIPAM Officer and Examiner of patents & designs, Ministry of commerce and Industry, Govt of India, advisory committee members Prof. Anirudh Sharma, Dr. Seema Malpotra, Dr. RituBhagat, Dr. Anupama Arora, Dr. Deepshikha, Dr. Kailash, Prof. Anoop and members of organizing committee Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Dr. Surya Partap, Prof. Ram Krishan, Prof. Neha Mahajan, Dr. Suresh Sharma and Dr. Verinder Singh.
Prof. Rakesh Singh, Convener of the workshop welcomed the Chief Guest, Resource person and all the participants. He said that Science Club of the college is continuously involved in inculcating academic, innovative and research aptitude among faculty & students. The IPRs is the basis of protection of any scientific/creative innovation/idea and the knowledge of various aspects of IPR are very much required at this time when the Higher Education Department is in the process of promoting startups and opening incubation & innovation centers in Universities & Degree Colleges.
Prof. Sumanesh, who inaugurated the workshop stressed on the need of such types of workshops for the faculty as well as students. He appreciated the efforts of the Speaker, Convener, members of organizing committee and IQAC for taking this collaborative initiative of organizing the National Level Event in GDC Kathua. Moreover, he encouraged all the faculty members to organize more such events at this time to educate budding entrepreneurs about the importance and advantages of owning IP.
Revered resource person of the event, ChhaviGarg, NIPAM Officer and Examiner of patents & designs, Department for promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt of India, delivered a very informative talk on “IPR & Patents, Designs Filing.” In her deliberations she covered all important aspects of IPR like Copyright, Patents, Design, Trademark and also highlighted the criteria for obtaining patents, design registration and the work to be copyrighted. Moreover, she explained in detail how to file patents and apply for copyrights.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jaswinder Singh, IQAC Coordinator appreciated the role of the organizing committee and resource person for successful organization of such a national level workshop on a very important topic which will help the Institution in better NAAC grading. He said that IP is a key aspect for economic development.
At the outset, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Organizing secretary, in his inaugural talk, highlighted that the protection of intellectual property is a vital component of innovation and scientific advance since many of the benefits of the invention will be lost if the resulting IP is not timely protected. Moreover, he discussed various initiatives of the Government of India such as “Startup Intellectual Property Protection Scheme”, “Atal Innovation Mission” to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in India. In the end an impressive vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Surya Partap, Head, Department of Zoology and Co-organizing Secretary.
