5 drug peddlers arrested, Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore & Shopian and also recovered contraband/psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Police said that a police party headed by SHO PS Tarzoo of Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore at a checkpoint established at Seer Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK05E-0669 with two persons on board identified as Iqrar-ul-Islam R/OAmargarh and Owais Mushtaq Hakeem R/OSopore and upon checking recovered 216 Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules from their possession. Stating that the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Disclosing that in a similar action in Shopian, a police party of PS Shopian under the supervision of SHO PS Shopian during routine patrolling at old Sumo Stand Shopian arrested three drug peddlers identified as Ab Hameed Sheikh S/O Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh R/O Batapora Shopian, Sameer Ahmad Tak S/O Mohammad Ashraf Tak R/O Arm Mohalla Shopian and Fahid Altaf Sheikh S/O Mohd Altaf Sheikh R/O Teng Mohalla Shopian who were covertly selling contraband substances among the youth of district Shopian, Police in it’s above referred statement furthermore said that during checking, officers recovered 1.5Kgs of Bhang powder, 110grams of Charas powder, 30grams of Charas and 06grams Heroin & cash amount of ₹7500/= (proceeds of narcotic crime) from the possession of above named accused who have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Police in it’s statement also said that cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation has been taken up.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, Stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are parts of the efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
