Pulwama: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary, who is also the District Election Officer on Saturday finalised the calendar of activities for celebration of 13th National Voters Day (NVD) at Pulwama on 25th January, 2023. This year the day is being celebrated on the theme ‘Nothing like voting, I vote for sure’.
The DC said that the ‘National Voters Day’ is an occasion to appreciate the remarkable contribution of the Election Commission to strengthen our democratic fabric and ensure smooth conduct of elections. This is also a day to spread awareness on the need of ensuring voter registration, particularly among the youth, he added.
On the occasion, the DC directed that the National Voters day (NVD) will be celebrated at District Level, Tehsil level, Assembly Constituency Level and at polling station level. Besides, all Government departments, Non-Government Organizations, Civil Society Groups, Panchayat Raj Institutions, Academic Institutions, Organizations of Youth Volunteers like NSS, NCC, Scouts & Guides, NYKS, etc. of Pulwama district shall organize appropriate events.
Choudhary listed different activities and passed directions to the concerned for smooth conduct of the programme. The activities discussed include Pledge taking ceremony, Rally of students and general public, and celebrations at Circuit House Pulwama.
The DC directed to organise events involving students in competitions (essay, debate etc) and webinars at the GDCs/institutions on this year’s theme. It was also decided that events shall also be organized at each polling station by the BLOs to create awareness among the people about the importance and power of vote.
Moreover, the DC stressed that in order to popularize the message of voter education and participation in the elections, all AEROs shall ensure such grand function at Tehsil Level and Polling Station level in which the participation of young voters is ensured and importance of registration of electors and its benefits at grassroots level be spelled out. Besides, newly registered voters shall be felicitated by handing over the EPIC during NVD functions.
DC directed the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Pulwama to organize the NVD function in association with Organizations of youth volunteers like NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides, NYKS etc to encourage young voters to be part of the democratic exercise of elections.
Assistant Commissioner (Panchayat), Pulwama shall organize the NVD function in all Panchayat Raj Institutions, the DC added.
DC directed the Chief Education Officer, Pulwama (Nodal Officer SVEEP) shall organize the NVD in all Educational Institutes to infuse democratic electoral participation among new voters. He shall also conduct debates and essay competitions, webinars etc in the run up to the NVD, the DC ordered.
The DC further directed that the Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Pulwama shall display the song “Main Bharat Hoon” and awareness films on postal ballot facility, Assured Minimum Facilities, EVM/VVPAT, Voter Helpline App. on display board for information of the general public.
Further, District Social Welfare Officer, Pulwama was directed to facilitate persons with disabilities, Senior Citizens, Transgender and personalities from other marginalized sections to be part of the electoral exercise to make elections inclusive, accessible and participative.
