J&K team wins 10th National Pencak Silat Championship

Jammu: The winning streak of J&K athletes continues and this time around, it is the 10th Sub Junior, Junior, and Pre-Teen National PencakSilat Championships where the players of J&K have emerged as overall winners of the championship.
The championship was held at the Indoor Sports Complex, Swami RamanandTeerth University, Nanded in Maharashtra.
The 2022 edition of the Sub Junior and Junior PencakSilat Nationals was held from January 13th to 16th with participation from 34 States and Union Territories comprising both girls and boy’s teams from as many regions.
More than 1400 players took part in the tournament and those doing well shall be called for Indian national camps for the forthcoming Junior Asian Championship to be held at Tashkent Uzbekistan and Junior World and Commonwealth Championship 2023 likely to be held in Singapore.
Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull congratulated the J&K team which emerged overall champions with 29 Gold, 38 Silver, and 35 bronze medals while Maharashtra emerged as the runners-up overall in the championship, and Haryana was placed at the 3rd spot in the total medal tally.
Assuring the winning team of all the support, Secretary Sports Council said more training centers in different games shall be made operational in some time so that the holistic development of sport that we are aiming at is achieved.
Muhammad Iqbal team coach and Irfan Aziz Botta Treasurer of Indian PencakSilat Federation was accompanying the team.
The Championship was organized by Maharashtra PencakSilat Association under the aegis of the Indian PencakSilat Federation and under the banner of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India and Sports Authority of India.
