Samba: Government Degree College Ramgarhon Monday organized a poster making competition to promote the Save Girl Child campaign.
The event was organized by the Women Development Cell, NSS unit ‘Prabha’ and Department of Education under the banners of ‘My College My Pride’ and ‘My Town My Pride’ initiatives with the motive to spread the message of ‘SAVE GIRL CHILD’. Prof. (Dr.) SatinderKaur, the Principal of the College supervised the event.
On the occasion, she encouraged the students to compete with zest. She emphasized on empowering the girl child and making her ready to face the challenges in future. She explained that the crime against women is a big barrier to the development and growth of the country. “However, the government is taking this problem seriously, and for stopping female feticide they have banned the sex determination ultrasound, amniocentesis, and scan tests in the hospitals and labs,” she added.
The government took all these steps to make society aware that girls are a gift of God and not a burden. Further, she said and encouraged the female students to always carry confidence and the male students to be sensitive in their behavior towards females. She also stressed the need to promote equal liberty for girl and her economic and social freedom for a sustainable society.
The theme of the event was aligned with the theme of the United Nations’ ‘My Voice, Our Equal Future’ aiming at the Progress of the Girl Child. The foundation of this initiative started with laying stress on educating the masses in general and the girl child in particular.
The participation in the poster-making competition was open for all the students of the college. Prof. Seema Sharma, Convener Women Development Cell and Head of Department, Department of Education coordinated the event. A total of eight students participated in the competition. The participants not only presented their posters, but also shared their views on the theme.
The event was adjudged by Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Dr. Shamsher Lal and Prof. Risha Kumari. Participants were adjudged on the basis of creativity, originality, relevance and presentation. First prize was bagged by Alisha Menia, second prize was bagged and shared by Riya Rani and Vimal Singh and third prize was bagged by Prinka Devi.
