Pahalgam coldest place in Kashmir with -10.9 D Cel

Srinagar: Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam experienced seasons coldest night with minimum temperature plunges to minus 10.9 degree Celsius followed by Gulmarg minus 10.4 degree Celsius respectively on Sunday.
The Meteorological Department forecast dry weather to continue till January 18 and cloudy with chances of light rain/snow over isolated to scattered places mainly over higher reaches January 19 to 21.
There is a Possibility of light to moderate rain/snow over plains and moderate snow over middle & higher reaches most likely during January 23-24 at most places of J&K, MeT office said.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir experienced the season’s coldest night on Sunday with minimum temperature plummeting to minus 10.9 degree Celsius against minus 5.9 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was 3.8 degree Celsius below normal for the tourist spot during this period of the season. On January 2 Pahalgam had a low of minus 9.6 degree Celsius this year.
Ski resort of Gulmarg after experiencing seasons lowest temperature on Saturday at minus 11.0 degree Celsius showed a slight improvement and had a low of minus 10.4 degree Celsius on Sunday. It was 2.5 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season for the valley of meadow in north Kashmir.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, with overcast sky had a low of minus 0.6 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 0.1 degree Celsius previous night. It was 1.5 degrees below normal during this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway in south Kashmir had a low of minus 0.7 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 1.4 degree Celsius while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.3 degree Celsius on Sunday, the MeT office said.
