Srinagar: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said that his party will participate in a meeting called by the Elections Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.

ECI has called a meeting in New Delhi on Monday to demonstrate a prototype to enable remote voting for migrant workers and students, the former Union minister said that NC will also attend it. “Let them invite”, Farooq told media persons in Baramulla in north Kashmir on Monday.

He said “we will listen to what they have to say and we will also tell them what we have to convey”.

In reply to a question Farooq said that elections must take place in Jammu and Kashmir. Only elections can provide a people’s government in Jammu and Kashmir and can address the miseries of the people’. “One Lieutenant Governor cannot do this’, he added.

Asked about VDC members in Rajouri being provided weapons to fight militants, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister defended the move, saying the militancy has to be fought.

“It is not something new and weapons were provided to VDCs we (NC) ruled the Jammu and Kashmir”, he said and added “the militancy has to be fought,” he said.
