Dir Fisheries visits Kulgam, inspects Trout Unit & Trout Hatchery at Tchanser

Kulgam : The Director Fisheries, Mohammed Farooq Dar on Friday visited Kulgam and inspected Trout Unit and Trout Hatchery at Tchanser in in the district.
During the visit, the Director was apprised about the developmental scenario of Fisheries sector in the district. It was informed that Trout Fish farming in private sector is growing at a fast pace and about 80 units established under various schemes are running successfully and during the current fiscal more 14 units are coming up under PMMSY Scheme.
It was given out that the total Fish production of the district has reached to 205 MTs during the previous year 2021-22. The maiden Trout Hatchery in Government Sector at Trout Farm, Tchanser has a carrying capacity of 5 lac eggs and quality Trout Seed of fingerling size is being supplied to Private Fish farmers and during the previous year about 1 lac fingerlings were supplied to the private fish farmers of the district and the rest of the seed demand was met from Trout Fish Farming Project, Kokernag and Khag Hatchery in district Budgam.
Director Fisheries emphasized for up-gradation of hatchery and also completion of new hatchery unit to meet the demand of about 3.50 lac trout seed and make the district self-sufficient in Trout seed production.
On the occasion, Director Fisheries released the trout fry in the rearing tanks for raising them to fingerling size.
He also visited Trout Unit Kulgam and took stock of ongoing work of European/ American type raceway.
The Director Fisheries was apprised about the need of maintenance and repairs of other Fisheries assets in the district viz. Trout Farm Chawalgam, Carp Farm Qaimoh, Angler’s Lodge at Aharbal, fencing of Mirhama and Aharbal land.
Director Fisheries instructed the concerned District Officer to prepare a detailed plan for overall development of Fisheries Sector in the district.
Moreover, he stressed that awareness cum training camps be organized to create awareness about various schemes being implemented by the department so that un-employed youth can be encouraged to adopt fish farming and avail benefits of Centrally Sponsored Schemes so that potential of Aquaculture in the district can be harnessed in a sustainable and responsible manner.
He gave a patient hearing to the staff and assured that the genuine grievances will be addressed in a time bound manner.
The Director Fisheries was accompanied by Abdul Majid Tak, Joint Director Fisheries (South) and Assistant Director Fisheries Kulgam besides other Officials.
