Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested 3 drug peddlers in Anantnag & Awantipora and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar here Police said that a Police party of Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established near Alnoor Masjid KP Road Anantnag arrested two persons who were roaming in a suspicious condition and upon searches recovered about 6.5 grams of Opium (Afeem), 170 grams of Charas and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (Omerex) from their possession following which they were identified as Muneeb Nazir Hakeem son of Nazir Ahmed Hakeem resident of DC Colony Mominabad and Amir Suhail Ganie son of Saidullah Ganie resident of Peth Dialgam Anantnag, Stating therein further that both the accused have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in a similar action in Awantipora, a Police party of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Noorani Colony-old NHW Link Road near BSNL Exchange arrested a drug peddler identified as Bilal Ahmad Khan @Pasha son of AbKhaliq Khan resident of Douninad A/P Frestabal and upon searches recovered 2.6 kgs of Grinded Cannabis from his possession, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
