Overwhelming response of people proof of effectiveness of Grievance Redressal: DC Ang

Says ‘action taken report on grievances raised during Block Diwas being monitored closely’

Anantnag: Block Diwas has proven to be an effective measure for grievance redressal, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom while addressing a large gathering of locals during maiden Block Diwas held on Wednesday at Kapran, Verinag. The DC was accompanied by SDM Dooru Ghulam Rasool Wani and Joint Director Planning, Mohd Ashraf Mir.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the overwhelming response shown by people by attending the Block Diwas is proof that grievance redressal mechanisms are functioning in the district. He said that grievances are a natural outcome in any system but resolution of grievances in a time bound manner is the hallmark of effective governance and the administration is fully committed to redressal of genuine public grievances.
People on the occasion hailed the DC for visiting the village, situated more than 50 kms from the headquarter to listen to their grievances and resolve issues. They said that their grievances are being resolved by the departments from time to time.
They aired several important issues on the occasion including additional staff deployment at JK Bank, Kapran, fire station at Kapran, road connectivity to Nagam Nard – Rigmandoo habitation, compensation of PMGSY Land Acquisition, staff at HSS Qamar Shahabad, separated educational zone for Qamar and adjacent areas, new snow cutters, KGBV Hostel at Kapran, macadamisation of Halsidar road and availability of female staff at NTPHC Qamar.
Dr Basharat issued on spot directions to accompanying officials from various departments for early redressal of grievances. He also highlighted the role of PRIs in grievance redressal and effective implementation of development plans.
The DC said that people have an important role to play in development plans through various instruments of participative democracy. He particularly stressed on participation of people in Gram Sabhas so that their needs and aspirations can be catered to without need of intervention.
Referring to implementation of Forest Rights Act and grant of community and individual rights, strict directions were issued to Revenue and RDD officials for clearance of any pendancies. He said that mutation camps must be held in the panchayat for the same.
Sports kits were also distributed among the youth on the occasion.
The DC was accompanied by SDM Dooru, GhulamRasoolWani; Joint Director Planning, Mohammad Ashraf Mir; DDC Shahabad, CMO, ACD, ACP, Executive Engineers, Tehsildar and BDO.
Block Diwas was also held in Achabal and Sagam community development blocks. At Achabal, the event was presided over by Additional District Development Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Wani and at Sagam, ADC AnantnagGulzar Ahmad chaired the event.
Locals participated in the Block Diwas and aired their issues. The officers issued directions to line departments for time bound redressal of grievances.
