Pahalgam, Gulmarg witness seasons’ coldest night on new year eve

Srinagar: Cold weather continues to haunt Kashmir valley even as tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded seasons coldest night on the new year eve.
Meteorological forecast of mainly dry weather to continue in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir continued to shiver and witnessed coldest night of the season for the second consecutive day on the occasion of new year eve with minimum temperature plummeting to minus 9.4 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 9.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was minus 2.8 degree Celsius below normal for this period of the season.
Famous ski resort of Gulmarg had a low of minus 8.2 degree Celsius against the minus 8.0 degree Celsius a day ago.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir had a low of 0.5 degree Celsius against minus 0.4 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was 2.6 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius, Kukernag had a low of minus 0.5.
Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.5 degree Celsius against minus 1.1 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was minus 2.0 degree below normal for this time of the season, MeT office said.
