Anantnag: In order to review the implementation of Road Safety measures in Anantnag and to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the district, a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) was on Saturday held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, DrBasharatQayoom at DC Office Complex, here.
The members of the committee deliberated on various issues including remedial measures taken on identified black spots, improvement of lighting on vital roads, Traffic Management System and distribution of Critical Care Ambulances in a strategic manner.
The DC emphasized upon the stakeholders to draft a traffic plan for hassle free movement particularly in the rush hours. While taking strong note of frequent traffic jams on court road, DC directed officials to ensure existing parking spaces of Municipal council are utilised to their fullest and impose heavy fines on illegally parked vehicles.
While briefing the chair, the ARTO said that the Motor Vehicle Department along with traffic police conducted several drives on KhanabalJanglatMandi route to create deterrence against illegal parking of vehicles and have conducted audit cum overload inspection of school buses/ passenger vehicles.
The DC emphasized adopting a multi pronged strategy as advocated by MORTH based on 4Es viz Education, Engineering, Enforcement, emergency care. He directed PWD to improve road markings and signages, to minimise high risk stretches and black spots, improvement of junctions on all cross-roads and improve road lighting near habitations.
DrBasharat highlighted that analyzing data related to previous accidents and taking remedial steps is essential to prevent such mishaps in future. He also pressed for nominating Road safety ambassadors in each school for creating awareness about traffic rules and measures to avoid accidents.
DySP HQ and DySP Traffic also put forth suggestions and remedies for tackling traffic jams, averting accidents etc.
The meeting was attended by CMO, Executive Engineer R&B, CEO MC Anantnag, DySP HQ, DySP Traffic, DEPO and other concerned officers.
