Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested 2 drug peddlers and also recovered contraband substance from their possession on the spot.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar here police said that a Police party of Police Station Chadoora at a checkpoint established at Tagnar Chadoora intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK04A-8236 with two persons on broad
Stating that 176.200 KGs of Poppy Straw concealed in 5 nylon bags were recovered from the possession of the said persons identified as Showkat Ahmad Yatoo @Shola S/o Abdul Aziz YatooR/o Hayatpora Chadoora and Farooq Ahmad Sheikh @Jana S/o Abdul Majeed Sheikh R/o Tangnar Chadoora who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that the behicle used for the commission of the crime has also been seized. Police in it’s above quoted statement also said that a case vide FIR number 209/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Chadoora and investigation in the matter too was initiated, Stating therein further that during the year 2022, 122 drug peddlers were arrested and 18 vehicles were seized in drug-dealing cases in district Budgam alone.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and reitereated that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police in it’s statement also reassured the people that it has been making efforts to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
