Workshop on Solid Waste Management &Nasha Mukht Bharat held at IUST Awantipora

Srinagar : One-day workshop deliberating on the implementation of strategies for Solid Waste Management and making India drugs free was today held at Islamic University of Science and Technology in collaboration with Municipal Committee Awantipora here on Friday. The event organized by Dean Students IUST was attended by students, scholars, faculty, and officials from IUST and Municipal Committee.
In a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST here, on this occasion, Ms. Mathura Masoom (Director Urban Local Bodies) was the Chief Guest who talked about the segregation of solid waste management and different sustainable strategies for a clean and hygienic environment. Taking about the problem of drug abuse, she said that educational institutions have to spread awareness and can help in the identification of the victims for rehabilitation. Ms. ShameemaRaina, President Municipal Committee Awantipora emphasized the need for collaborative efforts for promoting awareness about Solid Waste Management.
President Awantipora Municipal Committee, said that cooperation among different stakeholders is important for a clean environment and progressive society. She also said that the problem of drug abuse doesn’t begin and end with an individual, but has repercussions for the entire society. Prof. Manzoor A Malik Dean Academic Affairs IUST said that Drug Abuse poses a formidable challenge and unless all the stakeholders come together, our society is staring at an unimaginable catastrophe. He stressed that efforts have to be taken to channelize the surplus energy of our youth into productive spheres.
Prof. NaseerIqbal, Registrar IUST appreciated the efforts of Awantipora Municipal committee and said that the importance of a clean environment can’t be overstated and said that awareness is the solution to many of the problems concerning us. Welcoming the participants Dr. Asifa baba, Dean of students said that IUST is very sensitive to the issues concerning the community and is collaborating with many organizations and institutions to spread awareness and save our youth from harmful ways and contribute to their development.
In a concluding para of the statement, the municipal committee felicitated the performers and members of the student council.
