Ahmedabad(Gujrat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi passed away at the age of 100 years on Friday after being briefly admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad.
Informing about her demise, the Prime Minister posted a heartfelt tweet saying, “A glorious century rests at the feet of God… In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which contains the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi and a life committed to values.”
Further, PM Modi recalled what his mother told him during his visit on her 100th birthday this year. “When I met her on her 100th birthday, she said one thing, which is always remembered that work with intelligence, live life with purity, that is, work with intelligence and live life with purity,” PM Modi tweeted. After Heeraben was admitted to the hospital, the ‘Dharmayatra Mahasangh’ in Gujarat’s Vadodara had offered prayers at the temple and chanted ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra’ on Thursday for her ‘good health’. Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple in Uttarakhand committee had also offered prayers for her speedy recovery.
Heeraben, who was admitted to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad on Wednesday was “recovering rapidly” till Thursday this week and was to be discharged soon, Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) had said. Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar city with Modi’s younger brother Pankaj Modi. The Prime Mminister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during his visits to Gujarat.
The mortal remains of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Hiraben were on Friday morning consigned to flames at a crematorium in Gandhinagar.PM Modi arrived at the airport in Ahmedabad in the morning and went straight to the house of his younger brother. There he offered floral tributes to his mother and bowed down at her feet. Later, PM Modi shouldered her mortal remains on way to the cremation ground for the last rites. Her mortal remains were consigned to flames by the prime minister and his brothers.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel have expressed grief over the demise of PM Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi over Twitter. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also extended condolences.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi condoled the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. “The news of the demise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraba is very sad.In this difficult time, I express my deepest condolences and affection to him and his family members,” Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
“Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Smt. Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Sri @narendramodi ji on the loss of his beloved mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family in this hour of grief,” Kharge said on Twitter Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Chhattisgarh counterpart Bhupesh Baghel also sent their condolences and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. The loss of a mother is like “collapse of a main pillar in life, which leads to emptiness in life,” Baghel said. Congress leader P Chidambaram said the passing away of a mother is an irreparable loss.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar and many top political leaders from the two states condoled the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother. Mann noted that the void caused by a mother’s loss can never be filled. “I express my condolences to the Prime Minister and his entire family in this hour of grief…,” Mann said in a tweet in Hindi. Khattar said he was deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Hiraben. BJP leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also expressed condolences at Hiraben’s demise. “My heartfelt condolences to Hon. Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji over the passing away of his beloved mother Smt. Heeraben Modi. May her soul rest in peace,” Singh tweeted. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said he was deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Modi’s mother. “There’s nothing that can fill the void of losing mother. My thoughts & prayers are with Modi Ji & his family in this hour of grief,” Badal tweeted.
Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma and Haryana BJP chief O P Dhankar also expressed condolences at Hiraben’s demise. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while expressing his condolences, said, “The loss of a mother is very sad at any age. It is difficult to describe it in words..” Senior Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kumari Selja also condoled the demise of the prime minister’s mother. “I extend my condolences to Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji for the painful loss on the sad demise of your mother,” Surjewala tweeted. “My heartfelt condolences to Shri Narendra Modi Ji over the passing away of his mother Smt Heeraben Modi. We stand by the Prime Minister in this hour of grief and loss. May her soul rest in peace,” tweeted Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
