Handwara: Police in Handwara on Friday organised cyber-crime awareness programme in Handwara.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar the cyber-crime awareness programme was organised at Govt. Higher Secondary School Ashpora which was chaired by Dy SP PC Kralgund Adil Hussain alongwith SHO PS Kralgund. The awareness programme was attended by the students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the school besides, public representatives of the area were also present.
During the programme, the participating students and staff members were briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes which have been found to be prevalent these days-such as, identity fraud, identity theft, impersonation, credit card fraud, data theft, cyber stalking, sextortion, OTP frauds, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairing officer advised the participants to adopt safe browsing habits to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the internet. Officer also appealed to the participants, not share OTPs or bank account details, passwords and to adopt precautions while conducting internet banking and online transactions. The participating students were also advised to exercise caution before accepting friend requests from strangers on social networking sites or on instant messaging apps. Participants appreciated the efforts of Police for organising such Cyber awareness programmes and making the general public aware about the cyber-crimes.
