Anantnag| : District Skill Committee meeting was held on Saturday at DC Office Complex here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom, who is also the chairman of the committee.
During the meeting, several important aspects of the District Skill Development Plan were discussed. The chair was given a brief overview of the District Skill Committee and various sub committees by Imran Wajahat, Principal ITI Anantnag and Convenor of the committee. Deliberations were also held on utilization of Sankalp fund and other important projects in the district. Various skill initiatives taken up under DSDP were discussed.
Sneha Kumar, MG National Fellow, informed the members that SANKALP scheme aims to hold activities related to development of District Skill Development Plan like labour market analysis, skill gap study and tracer studies. The scheme also envisages activities to increase the outreach efforts of local industry.
Referring to special provisions for vulnerable groups such as women, PwD, SC / ST, it was informed that special training and skill upgradation programs will be held in ITIs / Polytechnics.
Other important projects within the ambit of the DSDP like industry demand estimation, Youth Aspiration survey, jail inmate training, service centres at ITI, GI tags for local industry etc were also discussed during the meeting.
The DC said that there is unprecedented focus on providing sustainable livelihood opportunities to the youth and that skill upgradation and market linkage of youth are critical components to achieve the target.
He said that plan formulation is a key aspect in successful implementation of any project and that important activities like labour market analysis, industry demand forecast and youth aspiration survey will help to design suitable interventions for the district.
Highlighting that Anantnag produces exclusive products like Mushkbadji, cricket bats which are of international standard, he said that the District Skill Development Plan should include interventions to achieve upscaling of these industries by focusing on skilled workforce availability and market outreach opportunities for the industry.
The meeting was attended by CAO, Principal GP Larkipora, DSWO, ALC, DEPO Anantnag among others.
