DC B’pora chairs Distt Road Safety Committee meet

DM directs concerned to deal strictly with the problem of roadside encroachment

Bandipora :  The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad on Friday chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting at Mini Secretariat, here.

During the meeting, the DC took department wise review of measures taken in connection with the different achievable targets as set by DRSC in the previous meeting and sought Action Taken Reports from all concerned departments.

It was informed that signage boards, posters, hoardings, removal of black spots, construction of crash barriers have all been done across the district to ensure road safety.

The DC also enquired about measures taken to regulate traffic in Bandipora town and directed all concerned departments to regulate traffic more effectively in the town and immediate measures be taken for decongestion. He also directed authorities to remove road side encroachments and take strict action against violators.

Motor Vehicles department, Traffic authorities were also directed to enhance enforcement of Motor Vehicles Act across the district and intensify checking on main routes.

Dr. Owais also directed for conduct of Road Audit across the district so that further remedial measures by way of structural augmentations be made for ensuring better road safety.

Barricading at identified road stretches, road safety measures including shifting of stands, introduction of e- rickshaws, establishment of Trauma Centre and awareness on traffic regulations were also discussed in detail.

Dr. Owais asked the concerned traffic police and motor vehicle Department to take stern action against the violators of the traffic laws as per relevant provisions.

He directed to take immediate action against illegally parked vehicles on the road and removal of obstructions to traffic on the road.

The DC warned of strict action against those dumping garbage and construction material on roadsides.

He directed officers to deal strictly with the problem of roadside encroachment for hassle free movement of public.

The meeting was attended by ADDC/Nodal Officer Coordination, Mohd Ashraf Hakak, CEO MC Bandipora, ARTO, DIO, Dy. SP, Dy.CEO, Executive Engineers, and representatives of Health, Beacon, Traffic police and other concerned.
