DHSJ reviews implementation of National Rabies Control Prog

Jammu :  Director General/ Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Saleem Ur Rehmanon Wednesday chaired a meeting here at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, to review implementation of National Rabies Control Programme (NRCP) and Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) in Jammu, Udhampur, Samba, Reasi and Kathua Districts.

The meeting was conducted to sensitize the medical fraternity about Prevention and Control of deaths due to Rabies in humans and progressively achieving the Global target for “Rabies – Zero by 2030”.

The meeting was conducted in the presence of Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Dy. Director Dentistry, DHS Jammu, Dr. ParveenYograj, MS Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Dr. HarjeetRai, State Surveillance Officer, IDSP Jammu Div., Dr. Anil Manhas, Programme Manager, SHS, NHM, J&K, Dr. Jaswant Singh, Laboratory Officer, Animal Husbandry Department, Jammu and Dr. Sushil Kr. Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Jammu.

At the outset, DrHarjeetRai, State Surveillance Officer gave a detailed overview regarding National Rabies Control Programme and various new initiatives being implemented at health facilities for providing post exposure prophylaxis of rabies. A detailed discussion was held regarding Provision of Anti Rabies Vaccine and Anti Rabies Serum to all animal bite victims up to PHC level through National Free Drug Initiative, capacity building of health professionals regarding Rabies post exposure prophylaxis. Various modalities regarding increasing awareness about post exposure prophylaxis among the general community were also discussed.

Dr. RichaMahajan, Lecturer, Community Medicine, GMC Jammu and Dr. PremLata, Medical Officer, Epidemiology discussed in detail about preventive and promotive aspects of Human Rabies in their Power Point presentation. DrJaswant Singh, Laboratory Officer, Department of Animal Husbandry, apprised the participants about the prevention and control of animal rabies. Dr. Sushil Kr. Sharma, Municipal Veterinary Officer, sensitized the participants regarding the Animal Birth Control drive by the Jammu Municipal Corporation of the street dogs.  ShaliniSoodan, Divisional Data Manager, IDSP sensitized the participants about the data updation and its quality on Integrated Health Information Portal of their respective districts. The Integrated Health Information Platform is a web-enabled near-real-time electronic information system that is embedded with all applicable Government of India’s e-Governance standards, and Information Technology (IT) to provide state-of-the-art single operating picture with geospatial information for managing disease outbreaks and related resources.

The meeting was attended by BMOs, DHOs, Medical Officers of District Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur, Anushika Gupta, Financial Consultant, IDSP, VidushiMahajan, DEO IDSP, Ayush Gupta, DEO and Paramedical Staff.
