DC G’bal tours Shallabugh wetlands

DM directs concerned to prepare holistic plan for its conservation

Ganderbal :The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir on Wednesday took an extensive tour of Shallabugh wetlands to have firsthand appraisal about the condition and water level of the wetland.

On the occasion, the DC took a short visit inside the wetland in a shikara along with DDC Vice-Chairperson, ADDC, ADC and other officials to have firsthand appraisal about the water level inside the wetland and to assess the necessary works to be taken for restoring its pristine glory.

It was informed that the water level in the wetland has risen to the satisfactory level due to the partial diversion of the fish canal originating from Anchar Lake. He hoped that in this season, wetland shall remain in bloom by different migratory birds.

The DC was briefed about the works to be taken for its preservation including dredging and de-weeding.

On the occasion the DC gave necessary instructions to the concerned for preparing a holistic plan including dredging and de-weeding adding that concrete steps need to be taken to preserve the wetland properly which is a habitat for thousands of migratory birds and to maintain ecological balance.

During the visit, the DC was accompanied by Vice-Chairperson, DDC Ganderbal, Bilal Ahmad, Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mehraj-ud-Din Shah, TehsildarTullamulla, BDO and other officials.
