Cybercrime awareness progs organised in B’gam &Awantipora

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday organized Cyber Awareness Day cum Cyber Jagrukta programmes in Budgam and Awantipora so that people could be educated about the cybercrimes and its impact on the society.

According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters here, police said that in Budgam, the first event was held at Springs Buds School Ompora which was chaired by ASP Budgam Gowhar Ahmad along with DySP Headquarters Budgam and SHO PS Budgam. Students and Staff members of School participated in the programme.

On the occasion, ASP Budgam briefed about various types of cyber threats/activities viz Identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, pornography etc. Speaking on the occasion, the chairing officer advised the participants to be aware while surfing Internet and not to fall prey to cyber criminals. He also appealed the participants to spread the awareness amongst others as well regarding the risks associated with digital transactions and social media applications in use. He also advised the participants not to open/click links without knowing the source of origin and mode of transmission through different Internet applications.

At Police Station Chadoora the awareness programme was chaired by SDPO Charar-e-Shareef Salim Jehangir &Dy SP PC Chadoora Mohammad Anzar Shah besides SHO PS Chadoora, IC PP Mochwa and Police personnel of Special Women’s cell also attended the programme. The event was attended by respectables of Chadoora town and other adjacent villages of Chadoora.

The SDPO Charar-e-Shareef, DySP PC Chadoora and SHO PS Chadoora sensitized the participants about various types of Cyber threats/activities. Speaking on the occasion, the chairing officers advised the participants to be aware while Surfing Internet and not to fall prey to cyber criminals. They also appealed the participants to spread the awareness amongst others as well.

Similarly, at Police Station Cherar-e-Sharief, the cybercrime awareness program was chaired by SHO PS Cherar-e-Sharief along with other officers. The event was attended by respectables of Cherar-e-Sharief town and its adjacent areas. The participants were sensitized about the emerging threats of cybercrime and ways to stay protected from it.

Meanwhile in Awantipora, the program was chaired by SP DAR Syed Fayaz Ahmad alongwith SHO PS Awantipora and IC PP Reshipora at Govt. Degree College Awantipora. In Sub-division Pampore, the programme was chaired by SDPO Pampore Imtiyaz Ahmad  along with SHO PS Khrew at Govt. Girls  Higher secondary School Khrew and SHO PS Pampore at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Pampore. Similarly in Sub division Tral,  the programme was chaired by SHO Police Station Tral along with IC PP Aripal at Unitech Computer Institute Tral.

The programmes were attended by respectable citizens of concerned areas, Teachers and students of various institutions. The main motive behind conducting such programmes is to provide awareness of cyber frauds among the General Public particularly students.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairing officers advised the participants to adopt safe browsing habits to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the internet. Officers also appealed to the participants, not share OTPs or bank account details, passwords and to adopt precautions while conducting internet banking and online transactions.

Participants were also cautioned against accepting friend requests from unknown persons or chatting with unknown persons on social media. Participants were briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, OTP frauds, online gaming fraud etc.
