4 drug peddlers held with contraband substances in B’gam ,G’bal: Police

Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested 4 drug peddlers in Budgam, Ganderbal and also recovery of contraband substances from their possession. Police also said that it has registered 66 FIRs, arrested117 drug peddlers including 15 notorious drug peddlers who have been detained under PSA & seized huge quantity of contraband/psychotropic substances during the current year in Budgam.

In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters here, police said that the PS Budgam established a special checkpoint at Karipora near DC Office Budgam after receiving specific inputs drug peddling in the area and during checking intercepted a vehicle (Tavera) bearing registration number JK01S-5579 with three persons on board identified as Jehangir Ahmad Magloo @Jan Kandail S/o Ab Rashid, Mohd Arif Magloo S/o Gh Mohammad, both residents of Putlibag and Zahoor Ahmad Dar @Tota S/o Gh Mohi-ud-Din Dar R/o Nasrullapora. Stating  that during searches 4.75 grams of Herion, 3 Mobile Phones and cash Rs. 1010/= were recovered from the possession of the above named drug peddlers, Police in it’s statement further said that the above named drug peddlers have been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. “During investigation, it surfaced that the arrested drug peddlers were going to sell contrabands among the youth of Mirgund, Karipora and other adjacent areas of district Budgam”, reads further the above quoted police statement.

Stating that in a similar incident in Ganderbal district a police party of PP Shadipora at a checkpoint established at Narainbagh arrested a drug peddler identified as Adil Ahmad GurooS/o Gh Qadir Guroo R/o Narainbagh, Police in the above referred statement furthermore said that during searches huge quantity of Bhang Patri was recovered from his possession, Stating therein further that  cases under relevant sections of law stands were registered at the respective police stations and investigations also initiated.

Notably, during the current year, Budgam Police has registered 66 FIRs under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act in which 117 drug peddlers have been arrested including 15 notorious drug peddlers who have been detained under PSA and 15 vehicles were seized. Huge quantity of contraband/psychotropic substances viz, 4.75 Kgs of Charas, 4644 Tablets of Spasmoproxyvon, 353 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 108.38 Kgs of Cannabis Powder, 147 grams of Heroin, 561.40 Kgs of Poppy Straw were seized. Besides, cash amounting Rs 3,03,355/= (proceeds of narcotic crime) have also been seized from the arrested drug peddlers. 15 vehicles used in the drug peddling have also been seized under NDPS, among these seized vehicles, one vehicle Wagon-R bearing registration No. JK04G-1662 has been recommended for confiscation after proper enquiry conducted U/S 68 E of NDPS Act. Moreover, Illegal Bung and Poppy spread on about 18.7 Kanals of land have also been destroyed. Besides, to generate awareness among the general public particularly among youth about the ill effects of narcotics/drug abuse, 31 quality awareness programmes/rallies have been conducted at various colleges, Higher Secondary, Schools and other places across the district.  Furthermore, 132 drug addicts have been given proper counselling at Drug Deaddiction Centre District Police Lines Budgam

Police in a concluding para of the statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood and reiterated that peoplefound indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
