Dear Editor,
The Central government made it mandatory for all television channels across the country to comply it’s general advisory from time to time for telecasting of content in national interest and air programmes on themes of national importance and of social relevance for at least 30 minutes every day, as per new guidelines, keeping in mind that the airwave like television is a public property and needs to be used in the best interest of the society. This move by central government is highly appreciable. Television channels has to board cast according to guidelines on the topics of national significance and social relevance particularly in eight areas which include education and the promotion of literacy, agriculture and rural development, health and family welfare, science and technology, welfare of women, welfare of the weaker segments of society, and protection of the environment. However centre might have incorporated areas like consumer awareness, welfare of Transgender, empowerment of person with disabilities also. Further it’s good that the new guidelines have exempted categories like sports channels were it is not feasible to obey the guidelines related to obligation of public service broadcasting.
