Harassment of women if reported from the highest learning centres like degree colleges and universities shows that morality has come down to a new low and never forget that remedy of such social evils lies in course correction more by the religious preachers and civil society groups than law enforcement institutions like police. The alleged harassment of a female student by a teacher of Agriculture University shows that girl students are not safe even in the educational institutions where they pursue educations with the intents to build their careers. By all standards of understandabilities one million dollar question arises here that how come young girls can be given sense of security by their parents when the conduct and behaviour of the teachers is unbecoming of a teacher who otherwise is duty bound to teach morality to students besides the formal education prescribed for attaining particular degrees.  Now when harassment of a woman has been reported from a top learning centre of Wadura area of North Kashmir that falls in a district controlled by a woman deputy commissioner, it is also time for even the government to take stock of the working of law enforcement institutions not only in Baramulla district but also in all the districts of both Kashmir valley and Jammu division. Undoubtedly  it is also time for both the religious leaders and as well as the civil society groups to rise to the occasion for putting their heads together with the intent of  embarking on the path of course correction to restore the standards of morality for which Kashmir is known all over the world.

Never forget that social security is a more powerful instrument of security and safety for women than the law enforcement and now when professor accused of harassing a girl student has been suspended and imprisoned, the law enforcement does not give a license to religious preachers and civil society leaders to continue with their quiescent approach on battle against unprecedented rise in social crimes like women harassment either at workplaces or other public places.

Unfortunately neither religious preachers nor civil society groups are taking as seriously the unprecedented rise in social crimes as they should taken over the period of years. Unfortunately religious preachers and civil society groups don’t wake up from deep slumber even after noticing rising waywardness of young boys and girls outside schools, coaching centres and colleges in Sumer Capital Srinagar and major towns of Kashmir Valley. The alleged harassment of a female student by a professor is by all standards of wisdom a wakeup call for people of all shades of opinion and it is for the people of all sections of the society to either wake up from deep slumber with the intent of building larger public opinion against the rise in social crimes or allow the social security system to remain as much on the collapsing mode as it is now. Conscience matters, social security matters at the end of the day.
