Pulwama : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary on Saturday visited Municipal Council Complex Pulwama and took part in various activities being undertaken under the flagship Shehri Jan Abhiyan a prelude to ‘My Town My Pride’ programme.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the Shehri Jan Abhiyan has been organized to spread awareness among the people regarding various government initiatives in place for the welfare of the citizens and assess needs for planned development of urban areas.

He said ‘My Town My Pride’ is an initiative to strengthen Urban Local Self-Governance and to serve the people with responsive, accountable and participatory governance.

Choudhary said the programme has three main objectives – Public outreach in towns, Strengthening grass-roots democracy and service delivery at doorsteps.

He appealed to the people to be part of the decision making process and decide about utilization of funds meant for development of their wards by participating in ward meetings during ‘My Town My Pride’ programme. ‘People should meet and discuss about their development issues and prioritize works as per need and develop an action plan for their own wards’, Choudhary added.

The DC said the visiting officers shall identify the gaps and ensure sustained and synchronized efforts to remove bottlenecks.

He said “My Town My Pride” is on the lines of recently concluded ‘Back to Village’ programme for providing doorstep delivery of different government services and to identify structural issues firsthand.

The DC also asked all the concerned officers to work in tandem and coordination so that people of the town get benefitted of the new initiative of the Government, envisaged to provide better service delivery and governance at the doorsteps of the people living in towns.

He exhorted upon all the concerned officers involved in public service delivery and others for setting up a dedicated stalls/Kiosk at the venue of the program.
