Srinagar : At a glittering ceremony to celebrate International Day for Persons with Disabilities here at Voluntary Medicare Society or VMS a troupe of special children through a skit appealed the authorities of School Education Department to extend recognition to the VMS run Inclusive School for higher classes as they were not able to join normal schools which are not accessible to them and where the teachers and students appear biased against them. Through the skit they described different kinds biases they suffer in government schools.
According to a statement issued from Volunteery Medical Society the children presented a variety programme covering different issues confronting specially abled persons. Dr Irfan Robbani, Principal, SKIMS, Medical College,Bemina, speaking on the occasion praised the VMS management for developing facilities like Prosthesis and Orthotics among 17 departments catering to different disabilities and adding more specialities besides setting up a state of art Dialysis Centre. Dr Mushtaq Margoob, renowned Psychiatrist, Head SAWAB Centre, VMS and a member of VMS Executive Body, appealed the people to play their role in alleviating the sufferings of persons with disabilities as is the collective responsibility of the society to work shoulder to shoulder with VMS like NGOs the society owes it to them. Adding that transformative solutions for inclusive development could be used only when people share their ideas as well as wealth for such persons. Earlier Dr Mir Mohammad Maqbool, founder and president of VMS in his inaugural speech said that the purpose of observing such days was to sensitise people about the difficulties faced by PWDs and spread awareness about the duties and responsibilities of people towards theservices disadvantaged persons. He welcomed the patrons of the society whose help and support, he said, was vital to run various facilities at the school and rehab centre. Dr Simnani, Principal, GDC Bemina on this occasion committed that his college NSS unit will be extending all help to VMS in running various programmes and extra curricular activities of the children of Shafqat School. G R Sufi, former Chief Information Commissioner, Prof Mir M Maqbool, Dr F A Kaloo, Dr Mushtaq Margoob and Masooda Yasin, presented Mementoes to the guests of honour & and cash prizes among the winers. Prof Masooda Yasin, Secretary VMS presented a vote of thanks.
