Mayor JMC discusses vision document for beautification, tourism & culture promotion plan for Jammu city

Jammu : Mayor Jammu, Rajinder Sharma on Monday chaired a meeting of different line departments to discuss the plan for beautification and promotion of tourism and culture  in Jammu city here ahead of the start of “My Town My Pride ”programme.

Members of the Executive Committee, Commissioner JMC, Director Archaeology and Museum, Joint Director Tourism, Joint Director Floriculture, Officers from JMC, other line departments and representatives of Dharmarth Trust were also present in the meeting.

The Mayor said beautification helps a tourism entity grow by attracting more visitors, providing positive word of mouth publicity, creating an inviting environment that tends to lift the spirits of service personnel and creates community pride. The work of keeping Jammu city clean, beautiful and attractive is possible with the cooperation of Corporations, different departments and common people, added the Mayor.

In the meeting, the Mayor sought suggestions from all the members of the Executive Committee as well as from the line departments to make Jammu city more beautiful, clean, and pioneer in the direction of tourism.

On this occasion, Commissioner JMC gave a detailed presentation on the proposed city beautification plan as well as the city tourism and culture plan.

The Mayor said Jammu Municipal Corporation and other allied departments should work together so as to transform Jammu into the best tourist-friendly city of the country. He said priority should be to glorify our culture and heritage. He asked to explore the possibility of creating a replica to showcase the history of war heroes at BalidanStambh, possibilities developing world class water sports on the pattern of Mumbai near Golf Course, Har-ki-Podi, development and promotion of GharanaWetLand  and glorification of heritage sites and vice versa.

Mayor, Jammu passed directions to the Tourism department to explore innovative ideas to promote tourism in the adjoining areas of Jammu like JiaPotaGhat, Akhnoor, Ambaran as these are historical places of Buddhists Monastic complex which is also a strong physical proof of vibrant Buddhist phase in Jammu. He also passed directions to the Tourism department to immediately launch a Mobile App containing information about different  tourist sites so as to boost tourism in Jammu  and its adjoining areas.

Mayor, Jammu said that Jambu Zoo would be open shortly for the general public and it will also emerge as big tourist destination of Jammu.

Mayor asked all the departments to work in close coordination    and dedication to achieve progressive and result oriented outcome.

In this regard, a Committee of different departments was constituted with the Joint Commissioner (Adm.), Jammu Municipal Corporation as its Nodal officer. The Mayor asked the member departments of the Committee to share their innovative ideas to formulate a comprehensive beautification and culture plan to bring Jammu on the Global tourist map.
