IIM Jmu hosts workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment

Jammu : Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu on Monday hosted a workshop on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace” for faculty, officers and staff here at its Canal Road Campus.

The workshop was conducted by  Neeta Verma, Advocate, a notable Member of the Supreme Court of India.  Advocate Neeta Verma is the State President of, the Women Protection Human Rights Mission, Jammu and Kashmir, and a Member of the International Council of Jurists in London, England.

The workshop gave an insight into “Sexual Harassment at Workplace – Acts and Rules. The Do’s and Don’ts prescribed in the act, ways to prevent gender-based malpractices, and the current judicial scenario was explained during the workshop.

The event commenced with an introductory address by Dr.SushantBhargav, Assistant Professor, IIM Jammu followed by the introduction of the speaker by Dr.MamtaTripathi, Chairperson, Sexual Harassment Committee, IIM Jammu.

Dr.NitinUpadhyay, Chairperson, MBA in his welcome address spoke and stressed the fine line to be drawn at the workplace to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment at the workplace. He also emphasized the need for the creation of a healthy atmosphere at the workplace and thereby contributing to a better society.

In her address,  Neeta Verma sensitized the faculty and staff of the Institute regarding the acts, rules, and legal consequences of Sexual Harassment at Workplace. The seminar emphasized gender bias and other related issues at workplaces, the current judicial scenario for sexual harassment at the workplace and various do’s and don’ts for the prevention of such unwanted practice by quoting real-life examples from her own experiences on the various instances of sexual harassment at the workplace.

Present on the occasion were Cmdr. KesavanBaskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer and Convenor of the Sexual Harassment Committee, and Dr.Pradeep Kumar Tarei, Co-Chairperson, Sexual Harassment Committee.

The program ended on a positive note that any such grievance is catered to with utmost importance and sincere investigation in every institute of national importance through the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). The session successfully promoted the experience of a safe and healthy work environment for all faculty members, officers, and staff members at IIM Jammu. The students, staff, and faculty members enthusiastically attended the session and made it a very interactive session. This was followed by a Q and A session. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr.Pradeep Kumar Tarei, Co-Chairperson of Sexual Harassment Committee followed by Hi-Tea.
