Kashmir valley continues to shiver, Srinagar witnesses coldest night at -2.1 deg C

Srinagar: Kashmir valley continued to shiver as Srinagar witnessed season’s coldest night with minimum temperature plunged to minus 2.1 degree Celsius on Sunday even as the Meteorological Department forecast of mainly dry weather over J&K during the next 24 hours, officials said.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced the coldest night of the season with the minimum temperature plummeting to minus 2.1 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 1.6 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. The temperature was minus 1.2 degrees below normal during this period of the season, MeT office said.

However, the maximum temperature was 0.2 degree above normal against the 13.8 degree Celsius recorded today. The sun appeared in Srinagar with mild fog engulfed the famous Dal Lake, Boulevard road and other surrounding parts of the city with haze on Sunday.

Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at minus 3.4 degree Celsius against the minus 3.0 degree Celsius recorded the previous night.

Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 1.0 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 0.4 degree Celsius recorded the previous night at the valley of meadow. However, the temperature was 2.1 degree above normal during this time of the season.

A broken water pipe at tourist place Drung at Tangmarg in the vicinity of Gulmarg formed huge Icicles to a tree due to severe drop in temperature there.

Quzigund and Srinagar-Jammu National highway recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius, Kukernag had a low of minus 2.8 while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.5 degree Celsius on Sunday.
