BGSBU commemorates Int’l Day for the elimination of violence against women

Srinagar : Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University commemorated the international day of the elimination of violence against women here on Friday.

According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office BGSBU here, n Prof . Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor, BGSB University while speaking on the occassion said that violence against women cannot be tolerated in any context. Prof. Akbar said that ending violence against women needs a multidimensional endeavor. It requires coordinated and sustained efforts from all of us across hierarchies in a professional and social setup. A 16-day long program will feature important lectures and talks from faculty in different departments, Sensitisation workshops, street plays, poster/slogan/short film competitions, panel discussions, and other awareness programmes.

On the opening of an event organized by the Centre for Hospitality and Tourism in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the University two lectures were delivered by Dr. MamtaBhat , Assistant Professor, Environmental Sciences and Dr. ShachiSood, Assistant Professor Department of English.

In a concluding para of the above referred statement, on the occasion, a rally was also organized by the Internal Complaints Committee and NSS Women’s Wing of Baba Ghulam Shah  Badshah University . The students, faculty and scholars from various departments participated in the rally to show their solidarity and support for the victims of domestic, mental and sexual violence. Addressing the rally, DrRomina Rashid, the Presiding Officer of the Internal Complaints Committee reiterated the awareness of constitutional rights given to women. Dr Pervaiz Abdullah, Coordinator of the NSS, emphasized the gathering to support women in times of adversity, especially during the violence. Present at the rally were Nabeela Nazneen, Ms. Mamta Chowdhary, Dr. SaimaAslam and Rabiya Chowdhary.
