KVK G’bal organizes Training/ Awareness Progs for farmers of the Distt

Ganderbal :  The KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK) Ganderbalon Thursday organized two training cum awareness programmes regarding Training & Pruning and Orchard Sanitation at Shuhama, here.

The programme was presided over by Dr.IshfaqAbidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal and was attended by Scientific and Supporting staff of KVK Ganderbal, progressive orchardists of District Ganderbal and RHWE students.

More than fifty participants registered for the programmes.

Dr.IshfaqAbidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KV Kanderbal described the importance of proper training and pruning in improving fruit quality and making the trees more manageable. He also described the various training and pruning systems that can be adopted by the farmers to make the plants more productive and increase their longevity.

Dr.Abidi further emphasized on the importance of Orchard Sanitation for management of various diseases in fruit trees. He discussed the efficacy of various sanitation strategies in reducing the incidence and severity of pathogen infestation, as the diseased foliage and fruit is the main source of inoculum.

Dr.Abidi advised the farmers to maintain regular contact with Team KVK for addressing their queries.

Dr.Shafat Ahmad Banday, Scientist Horticulture gave a detailed power point presentation on ‘Training and Pruning’. He thoroughly described importance of proper training and pruning for better production from orchards.

Dr.Banday showed the various methods of training and pruning and stressed on shunning the conventional methods being used by farmers since decades.

Dr Farooq Ahmad Ahanger, described the importance of ‘Orchard Sanitation’ for management of various diseases. He highlighted the importance of maintaining proper orchard sanitation for better returns from the orchards.

The participants were given hands on training regarding proper training and pruning techniques followed by field visit to KVK Farm.

An Interaction Session of participants and experts was also organized, where-in participants discussed various queries regarding spray and time of pruning. The trainees expressed their gratitude for conducting the programme and wished for more awareness programmes in future.
