Bandipora : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed on Monday chaired the meeting of the district level Narco Committee to discuss the measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotics trade in the district.
The meeting discussed threadbare various issues related to the incidents of drug addiction, areas of concern, age group of addicts, hot spots of drug use, illicit poppy and cannabis in the district.
The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district.
He stressed upon all stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign across the length and breadth of the district involving people from all walks of life including school children, youth, PRIs and the target public.
Dr. Owais asked the concerned to further speed up the vigil against drug abuse, consumption and intensify awareness against such addictive substances.
The DC urged Tehsildars to maintain liaison with police and redouble efforts against illegal use of drugs.
Dr. Owais said that District Administration is putting in dedicated efforts through its effective preventive measures and rehabilitation strategies, besides creating continuous awareness to eradicate drug menace from the district.
He also stressed on the officers to make more synergized and comprehensive efforts to fight drug menace in the district.
SSP Bandipora, Mohd Zahid also deliberated upon various measures for coordination and cooperation to curb illicit trafficking of drugs and its consumption by supply and demand reduction activities.
He said the Police department has maintained strict vigil against drug proliferation, consumption involving concerned stakeholders from civil administration.
ADDC Ali Afsar Khan, DPO Mohd Ashraf Hakak, Tehsildars, DFO, Dy SP HQ, BMO officers from Excise and Taxation and other concerned also attended the meeting.
