Kupwara :  The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatrayon Monday chaired an Employment Mela at Town Hall Kupwara in which about 400 youth of Kupwara area participated, besides all line departments working for Employment generation and Bankers were present.

The Employment Mela was part of the programme initiated by the District Administration under Mission OOZKE, across the district under which educated unemployed youth are being provided with opportunity to register and opt for setting up of self-employment generation units under the single window system.

Addressing the mela, the DDC said that the self-employment generation programme is being sponsored on Mission Mode basis in the district and is among the top priorities of J&K Government. He said the District Administration is committed to encourage the unemployed youth of the district to come forward and get benefited under the ambitious Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) by establishing income generating units.

He said 8000 educated unemployed youth have been identified during the Back to Village-4 programme, who are being facilitated during these employment fairs. He said mela so conducted is not the first of its kind in which 400 youth participated, but dozens of such employment fairs have been conducted across the district in which officers from line departments dealing with employment generation and Bankers worked together to facilitate the youth under one roof.

The DDC said that out of 8000 identified youth, the target is to provide financial assistance and loans to at least 6000 youth in a first phase in various 85 trades/ commercial activities including tourism, food processing, Handicrafts/Handloom etc.

He said that Banks have already been informed about the RBI guidelines under which there is no need of collateral security or guarantor up to the loan of Rs 10 lakh.

The DDC passed strict directions to the officers of line departments and banks to streamline their modus operandi by encouraging maximum unemployed youth in the district to take benefit under the scheme.

He further directed the officers to work with added zeal and dedication for achievement of the target within the shortest possible time.

On the occasion, it was informed that the ‘OOZKE’ is aimed at providing counseling to the unemployed youth regarding their area of interest in 85 different activities on a mission mode. Under the mission, the procedures and formalities of the banks have been simplified to encourage maximum youth to get their units timely establishment.

The meeting was attended by GM DIC, LDM Kupwara, officers of Employment, KVIB and NRLM besides District Heads of different banks.
