Jammu: International cricketer Mithun Manhas, one of the members of the 3-member BCCI appointed Sub Committee of JKCA has issued a legal notice to former Joint Secretary of JKCA Sudershan Mehta and popular media house Gulistan News accusing them of airing certain false and derogatory remarks against him aimed at defaming him and tarnishing his image in a video circulated by Sudershan Mehta.
A statement issued from JKCA Office said “ the video in question carrying false accusations and malicious remarks and cooked statements was aired on 01 November 2022 by Gulistan News Channel”.
In the legal notice it is said that the statements made by Sudershan Mehta in the said interview are “incorrect, misleading and defamatory” in nature and has accused Sudershan Mehta of pronouncing “a verdict of guilt” against a well respected and reputed person with the sole intent of harming his well established reputation and standing in the civil society and among the cricketing fraternity. Gulistan News has also been accused of airing “unverified accusations” against Mithun Manhas without caring to seek any clarification from him thus violating the well established media ethics.
The concluding para of the statement reads“Both Sudershan Mehta and Gulistan News have been asked in the legal notice to remove all defamatory material including the said video from their Face Book and other social media accounts within 24 hours and also tender an unconditional apology to Mithun Manhas”, adding that “In case they fail to do so in the stipulated deadline Mithun Manhas will be constrained to approach the appropriate courts both civil and criminal for proceeding against them for defamation”.
